Restoring Sight
Dr. McCarty entered into the field of ophthalmology because he loves the opportunity to perform state-of-the-art surgery while helping to restore sight, which most people would say is their most valuable sense. Experiencing the joy on the face of his patients when they see the results after receiving treatment for their eye disease is the most rewarding aspect for him. Dr. McCarty truly enjoys coming to work each day and witnessing the dramatic improvement we make to patients’ lives by protecting and restoring vision. Dr. McCarty appreciates the easy-going and open relationships he develops with his patients.
While specializing in cataract surgery and general ophthalmology, Dr. McCarty also treats most of the patients suffering from neuro-ophthalmic problems.
Personal Life
Dr. McCarty has been married to his wife, Cortney, also an Amarillo native, for over 25 years. They have three beautiful children, a girl, Riley, and two boys, Aaron and Jameson. Dr. McCarty values his time outside of work and makes a point to be very active in his kids’ lives. He enjoys traveling, fly fishing, playing with his dogs, and working out.
Dr. McCarty is an active member and elder at Hillside Christian Church. Over his career, Dr. McCarty has participated in multiple medical mission trips to Mexico where he is able to perform sight-restoring cataract surgery to those with severe cataracts and no way to obtain the curative surgery. He is also on the board of ChOSEN, a Christian ophthalmologic foundation bringing surgical eye care to those less fortunate.
